Phase I - complete (for this year…)

Damon, Kendal and I began the final portion of this phase on a wet, rainy Saturday morn of October 2nd. Man did it rain! It never stopped, so after about 3 hours, we did.

We returned with Brittany under a much more amenable conditions on Sunday, the 9th and Monday the 10th for a few hours each day, and combined with the intermittent assistance of the able-bodied men at the DRMM 3rd Street facility, we finally completed Phase 1 of the DRMM backyard project aka Rough Sketch.

With materials donated, salvaged or otherwise acquired (I am not at liberty to say how. who knows who reads these things) the “smokehouse” was erected; the last screw spun in place about 2:30 pm on Monday.

Of course, there are several improvements already in the works and the gaming area and landscaping has yet to begin, but combined with Damon’s tables, we at least have a good start to build on — both literally and figuratively — for the Spring.

I cannot thank all involved enough, but I want to especially thank Damon, Brittany and Kendal for their dedication on this. Without them, even this small beginning simply would not have been possible.

The DCDC, DRMM and their clients owe you a great deal, but we hope you will accept our “thank yous” instead :)

On hold…

As you all know, a week before we were to break ground on Phase I of this project, the site was purchased by Joel Landy. Mr. Landy owns several properties in the area, including the building which houses Global Bistro and the Burton Theater.

In a subsequent meeting between DRMM, DCDC and Mr. Landy, he made it clear that he was not in favor of our using his property for our project. So…we are on hold until we can reassess what we can do, where we can do it and who is still interested in being involved.

Rest assured, we have a couple of different scenarios we’re considering and will get back with all of you shortly.

We do apologize for the delay, but we and the DRMM were kinda blindsided by this purchase…
